Overall I found the kdl40w4000 has excellent picture quality in most situations, especially the in-built Freeview that comes with it, which was much better than I would have though as a non-HD source.

For a large LCD television the picture quality is exquisite, I didn't notice any real problems when playing the Xbox360 using this TV. (No log with Guitar Hero and awesome picture quality with other games) Also it has a beautiful design, also it's light and easy to carry. Plenty of HDMI ports, a VGA and the usual component etc inputs also. Well impressed highly recommend it

This widescreen TV has a Fabulous design, looks great in our living room. Hidden speakers are clever, effective to. Good, clear picture, especially in HD. Sound is great and could be enhanced with a cinema package or surround sound to make it even better!
The TV industry needs to keep up with technology and make programmes in formats which really play to large LCD strengths - come on - keep up! SKY are also letting the side down sometimes, but I believe Sky HD is a much better experience.

The picture even when watching standard definition signals sky and DVB are still excellent. Stick HD source into it and it really excels blacks are really black and high speed action sequences don't produce any ghosting. But either way your going to get a good picture no matter the format or what your watching.

Review 5

The W4000 series from Sony is a very well designed TV with an excellent picture and very good audio despite the slim hidden speakers. The viewing angle is good and blacks are very deep. There is no discernible clouding or backlight bleed with the set I was supplied.
This is an observation and not a criticism but the glossy body of the TV shows the dust quickly, although almost all competitor sets do the same.

Its without doubt has a Beautiful bright and vivid picture, even with standard definition signal, and no motion lag Note: you need to be a minimum of 6 feet away from a screen this size - 40"). Deep rich sound (when set to BeboViva mode). Picture frame mode is very useful. A classic case of you get what you pay for, this has always been the case with Sony, if your gonna pay good money for a HD TV you may aswell go a bit further and get one that rises head and shoulders above all the rest.
The only neg i could come up with, and its quite trivial really is the clear strip along the bottom means you might see the bottom of the wall bracket mounting bars. If this was black (like others TV's) you wouldn't see them. Connection sockets are not recessed into the back of the TV and are almost flush with it. This means the connectors (particularly HDMI and VGA) stick out some way.
